Good Question!
from Josee at HARI:
We have visually evaluated the regeneration of the choanal papillae, from blunted to healthy, once diet had been corrected to an optimal balance. Yet the individuals challenged with obesity, or sever deterioration of the choanal papillae sometimes never grow these back. Husbandry will also play an important role in the health of the choanal papillae. If birds are challenged with bacterial infections , and less than optimal water supply or clean dishes especially , then the process to reestablish the health of the choana is also futile.A thorough physical exam is recommended to highlight physical and medical predispositions that could be affecting the assimilation of vitamins and healthy choanal tissue.

Can the papillae recover to original if a corrected diet is offered or once the papillae become malformed, as described above, is this permanent?
